and he
can't relay
a single word
though his heart burns
like paper
inked
with the thousand things
he'd say to her

he must force the words:

"whatchusay girl? I mean not to urge"
but he just may,
for he knows
that time never slows
not at all
in fact
it's only time that can't be stalled
not at all

so you must consult

because Time,
they say,
wields a crystal ball
does he work days
at a kiosk?
the boy must now if he's lost
her
for good
or one day

where she should

only if he could...

that was but a fraction of
that which could have come

so the autumn frays
as if it grieves
